Update

Sorry there have been so few posts! We are still waiting on internet for our house. I did find a local coffee shop that has Wifi, and surprisingly good coffee. Will have much more when I can post from home.

Update on School: Colby's classroom is coming together. She has been in meeting after meeting, and we are thanking ourselves for getting here a week earlier to set up living arrangements. The teachers who just rolled in have a lot on their hands. She is out getting her blood drawn and a physical today for health insurance, and it looks like I will be able to get out of that one...HALLELUJAH.

Update on Minburi: The neighborhood we are in, and the part of Bangkok is very Thai, and has very very few foreigners. The reason is its far from downtown, and transportation is not easy out here. Today I will be working out some of the bus system, but there is one main artery that goes out this way, and all the neighborhoods just spring off that street, but only connect to it and no others. So traffic can get awful. The good side of living by the school is we are a 7 minute bike ride. As for our immediate surroundings however, there really is not many attractions.

We do have two main market streets a short walk or bike ride away from us. I jogged down to one of these yesterday morning, and it was bustling. Trucks with fresh vegetables were selling their goods right on the side of their road, more street food vendors than you could count, and crowds of Thai's. Have not seen another foreigner while at these streets, so it is interesting getting the strange looks from the locals, mostly friendly and curious.

I'm meeting with some other non teaching spouses today to talk about other opportunities they have run into while being here, some teaching at other international schools, universities, tutors, etc. Still exploring some options.

We are planning a trip to Krabi the weekend of August 10th with some friends we met here. This will hopefully provide us with some needed R&R after a whirlwind couple of weeks.

More pics will come I promise! Hopefully by this weekend we will internet.

Finally ordered a drip coffee. Hard to find without lots of sweets.

Very Thai street some friends live on. Almost all have gates, very detailed. Interesting street getting to this one...

  1. Hi Ry!
Good to see some more pictures and hear a bit about your neighborhood experience. I keep wondering if you feel adjusted to the time/day change yet, and how the climate feels to you.
Finding coffee seems like a great joy. Hurray!
Do you plan to stay in your apt 2 years, or will you be changing locations later?
I've got to get a Thai map to keep track of your travels!! Thanks for posting.
    Love,
    Mom
